Suggestion from a guy who watched an electrician like, twice. It'd be good to have a double pole double throw (DPDT) switch so that you're cutting both 110V lines for safety reasons- if you still have 110V on the motor and give it a path to ground it could be a hair -raising experience. I think at Lowes they're called "machine switches" and will fit right in that light switch box

Switch to a dimmer switch guys, keep the spring loaded return but use a dimmer switch so you can get half throttle when needed. If you put in a reverse polarity switch after the dimmer you can cut throttle flip the other switch and now you have reverse.

But you should have Put it on a dimmer switch with master kill

You need a Variac for it.

You can't just shut off one phase and not both. Smaller motor pulley on. Hard mount the motor plate and use an engagement flat pulley pushing into the back side of the belt creating more upper pulley contact.

Could you use a dimmer switch as a throttle? I've never seen a 220v dimmer though.

Can’t you just get a rheostat for the voltage you are using? It’s used all the time in home electronics for fans or lights it’s just an adjustable resistor.

Use a 240 sliding dimmer light switch, can use 2 springs 1 on each side on 1 side, and a throttle cable on the other side. That way you can actually have a working "throttle" lmao

The main thing to know about electricity is don't get it on you.

Single phase electric motors are voltage dependent for RPM. If it’s a 3 phase AC motor, it would need an ESC of sorts. Obviously one big enough to handle a 5hp motor
